Another standing-room-only session was the Washington Post’s editor Marty Baron and publisher Fred Ryan on stage together for the first time, talking to BCW chair Don Baerabout the Jamal Khashoggi affair, democracy and journalists – and journalism – under threat. It’s been a stimulating few days. The Independent PR Firm Forum on Monday brought together leaders from the global independent agency world to discuss some of the most critical issues for growth and competitiveness, against a backdrop of continued disruption. The day was headlined by a fireside chat between Richard Edelman and Arun Sudhaman. The two main Summit conference days on Tuesday and Wednesday featured perhaps our best-ever lineup of more than 80 top tier speakers from across the globe, including P&G chief brand officer Marc Pritchard, Senator Mark Warner, marketers, media influencers, activists, communicators and agency heads. It was an exceptionally eclectic exploration of the pivotal issues that are transforming public relations, at a time of unprecedented volatility, risk and uncertainty.
